Very little. The design is based on the floating docks you see all over Grand Lake, many of which have sat on the water for decades with minimal upkeep. The foam-encapsulated plastic pontoons and aluminum truss frame don't rot, rust, or waterlog the way wood or steel pontoons can, so routine upkeep is minimal compared to a traditional houseboat.
No. Dockboat is designed to stay in the water year-round without winterization — no draining systems, no hauling out, no seasonal shutdown routine.
The roof is covered in solar panels that charge the onboard battery bank, which powers house systems and the electric outboards. In most cases this means you're not dependent on a marina shore-power hookup to keep things running. Exact battery capacity and charge times are available on request.
Four electric outboard motors, one mounted at each corner, provide propulsion. Rather than a single center engine, the corner layout gives independent thrust at each end of the boat for precise, low-speed maneuvering and docking. Dockboat is built as a slow-cruising floating home rather than a high-speed boat — top speed and range specs are available when you reach out.
The four electric outboards let you reposition and maneuver the boat under its own power for docking and short repositioning. For longer distances across open water, it can also be towed, as shown in some of our photos.
Dockboat is a floating vessel, not a fixed structure. Registration, titling, and permitting requirements vary by state and by lake authority, so we work with buyers directly on what's required for their specific waterway.
Dockboat is built for calm, inland waters like Grand Lake, Oklahoma, where the original design was proven. Suitability for a specific lake or waterway depends on local rules and conditions — get in touch and we can talk through your location.
The current model has four bedrooms and three bathrooms, plus open living space. It's built for a family or small group comfortably, with room to entertain more on the covered porch and open deck.
